Message from the President
|
Simply, we are an organization of women building better communities. But like most things where
women are involved, it is not always simple!
The Junior League of Greater Winter Haven (JLGWH) is a volunteer organization for all women
interested in making a positive impact in their community. Our members reflect a wide range
of backgrounds, interests and personal pursuits, but we are connected to one another through
our commitment to volunteerism and improving the community.
Training is what makes JLGWH distinct from other non-profits. Strictly educational and charitable
we focus on developing the potential of women. Since 1980, the JLGWH has provided

motivated, community-minded women, with the knowledge, skills, talents, resources and experience to become
positive agents of change within our businesses, schools, non-profit work, and personal lives.
Through comprehensive, hands-on training and education programs that are focused on promoting
leadership, our members develop effective and innovative, issue-based projects to address our
community's needs. These passionate women research the critical needs facing our community and
become the advocates, catalysts, communicators, and leaders who inspire others both within and
outside of the League. Far from simple, these women are nothing short of superheroes!
The JLGWH is so blessed to have these superheroes dedicate their very valuable time and energies
to our mission, coupled with generous sponsors, we feel privileged to be part of such an organization
with the talents and resources to make a real difference for the families that live and love the
greater Winter Haven area.
This year we look forward to some exciting community projects including:
1. Super Saturday showcases our fine library facility to local youth introducing them literacy
and the wonderful resources available at the public library
2. Teach Mini Grants; much needed grants for local teachers improving the facilitation of
the classroom curriculum
3. Kids in the Kitchen where we will focus on nutritional education helping kids make healthier
eating choices
4. Circle of Friends by collaborating with an organization in Lake Wales for young adults we are
able to enhance the experience for developmentally delayed young adults.
5. Women's Outreach Programs periodical education opportunities where women in transition can gain
valuable information about re-entering the workforce, leaving a domestic abuse situation, or
budgeting as a single parent.
We hope you will explore our website and learn more about dedicated organization. We are always
eager to share our mission and looking for women with the same passion for giving back. It is
our hope that you will be inspired to become involved in "Building A Better Community" with the
Junior League of Greater Winter Haven.
Servingly,
Leslie A. Heimer
