Grants for Greatness
We believe that motivated and inspiring teachers know the needs of their
students best. The Junior League of Greater Winter Haven will award
grants in the amounts of $50 - $100 to individuals proposing innovative
programs, participation in high-quality professional development
experiences, a need for a lack of resources, or an experience that can
profoundly affect your student achievement. In addition to the financial
awards, “sweat equity” grants (volunteer hours) will also be awarded as the
Junior League of Greater Winter Haven strives to help teachers help
students in our community. Grants are open to all teachers in the Greater Winter Haven Area
including Winter Haven, Auburndale, and Lake Wales. Click

Congratulations to the Bear Hugs committee who delivered the collected "Bare Necessities" to Terri
Saunders, Executive Director of Heartland for Children. Heartland could not express their
appreciation enough for JLGWH's generous gift of love to the foster youth. The bags will be
given to those "Independent Living" teenagers who are being emancipated from protective custody
in county facilities or foster homes when they become eighteen. Bear Hugs provide these
emancipated teens a collection of items (including alarm clock, toiletries, towel, t-shirt,
community resource information, umbrella, journal & pen, book, stuffed animal, $10 phone card)
to ease the transition to independent living. Our goal was to provide two dozen bags. Thank
you to all wo helped in this project and tell these youth that someone in the community does care.

Over 200 meat lovers and League supporters dined on steak, chicken, pototoes and the fixings of
Outback Steakhouse in Winter Haven, FL on October 17, 2007. One thousand dollars was raised in
just a lunch hour! Thanks so much for helping support the Mission of the Junoir League of Greater
Winter Haven. These funds will assist us in addressing the needs of women and children of our
community.
Thanks to our sponsors, guests, committee, and volunteers, the event was a delicious success! The
Luncheon Fundraiser Committee wishes to extend special thanks to Outback Steakhouse.
