Circle of Friends

This organization, started in 1995, works to enhance and empower the lives of children and young adults who have physical and/or mental disabilities, and their families. The goal of Circle of Friends is to restore dignity and respect to special needs families. They provide activities and respite care for the caregivers as well as social, educational and cultural opportunities for the children. Circle of Friends seeks to provide situations in which the young adults with disabilities can become involved with civic and environmental duties and responsibilities, creating a springboard for them to become productive within their community. Circle of Friends is located in Lake Wales and did benefit from God's Helping Hands Farm when it was in operation. About half of the families that benefit from Circle of Friends are located in Lake Wales while the other half live in Easter Polk county, including Winter Haven and Haines City.

There are many ways that the Junior League of Greater Winter Haven can support the Circle of Friends Organization. Our goal is to provide an activity for the students of Circle of Friends in an effort to learn more about their organization. Additionally, we can work with the director of Circle of Friends to determine items needed throughout the year and have members make those donations (example: paper products, cleaning supplies, hygiene supplies for the students, etc.) There is a lot of room for this project to grow over the years.

Benefit: This project will provide the Junior League of Greater Winter Haven with an opportunity to reach out and improve the lives of the disadvantaged members of our community and their families. Our involvement with the students of this organization will positively impact their lives.
